AutoCAD 2011: A Look at What's New??

AutoCAD 2011's user interface is similar enough to prior versions that most recent AutoCAD users should feel comfortable with the new additions after a few minutes of exploration. New features include:

• A return to the dark model space tab with a new graph paper–style grid.
• Navigation controls are now docked along the right side of the screen.
• The quick-access toolbar now includes a pull-down menu for selecting the current workspace.
• A new ribbon pull-down menu controls how detailed you'd like ribbon panels to be.

AutoCAD 2011 comes with an updated user interface.

Ribbons employ a hierarchical structure almost like a pull-down menu, making it easier to use detailed ribbon panels without always having so much screen space consumed.

The new ribbon is context-sensitive.
 

The UCS icon and 3D gizmos have been updated to display a different color for each axis to minimize confusion when translating or rotating in 3D space. Red is for X, green is for Y, and blue is for Z.

 2D Drawing Productivity

If you're a heavy 2D user, you'll appreciate the new drafting features in this version.

Object visibility. Accessed via right-clicking, the Isolate Objects tool keeps only selected objects visible, or use the Hide Objects tool to do the opposite and turn off selected objects. Object visibility allows you to manipulate the drawing database without worrying about object layer memberships.

Object selection. Again accessed via right-clicking when the current command is in object selection mode (prompt reads Select Objects), the Select Similar tool allows you to select only those objects that meet the criteria you specify using the SelectSimilar command. Select Similar is essentially a user-definable filter that allows the user to build sets of objects based on any object properties.

Object creation. Another new right-click tool, Add Selected, allows you to create objects with identical properties based on selecting an existing object on screen. For example, select a dimension you wish to match, and not only will the properties be set, but the correct AutoCAD dimensioning command will be invoked.

Transparency. A totally new Transparency object property appears in dialog boxes such as Layer, Plot, and Properties. Transparency can be applied by object or by layer (just as color or linetype can) with values ranging from 0 (totally opaque) to 90 (almost gone). Be forewarned that if you plot transparent objects (rather than using them only as a visual aid), plotting will be slower, as rasterization of the entire drawing will be performed to handle transparent objects.

Transparency settings are BYLAYER and per Viewport.

Hatching and gradients. Hatching placement is made simpler with on-the-fly previewing, display order placement settings, mirrored hatching support (through the MIRRHATCH variable), separate hatching (rather than a single hatch object per operation), and faster processing of large boundary sets.

Polylines and splines. Polylines and splines both get updates via direct vertex editing functions; better ability to join all manner of contiguous 2D polylines, 3D polylines, helixes and splines together; and better curvature/tangency/kink controls.

Scale lists. Default scale lists are now stored in the registry, simplifying the deployment of custom lists for scale-driven parameters such as viewports, annotative objects, and so forth.

2D Parametrics

Normally, I don't like to gush over new features, but whether you're a fan of 2D parametrics in AutoCAD or have never given them a glance, the new features in this release will make it worth your while to become more familiar with this time-saving functionality. You might be surprised by how well they now work!

Inferred Constraints. Inferred constraints assume that when you place a feature using an object snap — think endpoint, midpoint, center, and the like — you probably want it to stay in place, so the software applies a coincident constraint to keep the objects aligned. Similarly, when editing an object's placement using commands such as Move or Copy with object snaps, the Inferred Constraints function remembers the new placement of the object and infers a constraint if applicable.

AutoConstrain. The AutoConstrain feature has been updated to recognize elements of equal length or size, so similar segments and arcs will behave the same way without users having to constrain them manually.

AutoCAD displays small icons to represent which constraints are active in a drawing.


3D Modeling and Surfacing

Users of the 3D features in AutoCAD will be pleased with what's new.

Point clouds. You now can now attach point cloud files (in ISD or PCG formats) much like you'd attach an external reference using the Point Cloud dialog box, and control the display density using the Point Cloud ribbon.

Surfaces. For 3D users, AutoCAD 2011 delivers more functionality for modeling solids, surfaces, and meshes than was introduced in AutoCAD 2010. It's the little things — including better edge selection, surface trimming, and converting solids to surfaces and vice versa — that make 3D objects a lot friendlier in this release. Here are some examples:


Blended surfaces are created using SurfBlend for gap-free visualization.



Offset surfaces are created using SurfOffset for shelled parts.



Surface filleting is performed using SurfFillet, just like you would perform a solid fillet.



Surface trimming to project holes or edges into other surfaces is performed using the Trim function from the Edit Surfaces ribbon tab.

Parametric surfaces. There's also a big new innovation in associative surfacing that updates surfaces as they are edited.

The rendering tie-in. All these advances in surfacing bode well for more rendering of complex geometries in AutoCAD — especially given the new materials options. (More on this in a moment.) 

Other Upgrades

The list of new features extends to a few other noteworthy updates.

External reference highlighting. If you now select an externally referenced file (file types DWG, DWF, DGN, PDF, or various image file formats) the file name will be highlighted in the External References palette. Conversely, selecting a file in the External References palette will highlight the objects belonging to the file on screen. Highlighting behavior is now governed by the ERHIGHLIGHT system variable.


The External References tab and drawing environment are now linked via object selection.

Help. To keep Help files up-to-date, AutoCAD 2011 now points the Help system to the Autodesk web site by default. This feature may be disabled in the System tab of the Options command.

Missing fonts. If a font file is missing upon opening a drawing, you now have the option to bypass assigning a font if you so choose, rather than having to specify a replacement.


Missing fonts may now be bypassed if desired.

Materials library and browser. AutoCAD 2011 now derives its rendering materials from the Autodesk Materials Library, thus providing a consistent set of tools across other Autodesk Products such as 3ds Max. Organizing materials is now easier via the ability to create your own materials libraries in the Materials Browser and the ability to search throughout the material library using characteristics-based searching.



I hope this quick overview of the new features in AutoCAD 2011 gives you a head start in determining whether this version would be a worthy upgrade for you or your company.

Cara Lengkap Instalasi Windows XP0

Windows ternyata belum termasuk kategori sistem operasi yang Easy Install. Terbukti beberapa rekan meminta panduan bergambar tentang cara Instalasi sistem Operasi keluaran Microsoft ini. Bukan apa-apa, ternyata Windows masih kalah sama Linux Ubuntu, misalnya, dari segi kemudahan instalasi. Untuk menginstall Windows XP, Anda harus menjalani rangkaian proses panjang seperti yang akan saya paparkan di bawah. Sementara Linux, khususnya Ubuntu, Anda tinggal Install dengan beberapa klik dan pilihan, sistem operasi akan siap lengkap dengan software pendukung Office, gambar, pemutar suara dan video…

Anyway, itu cuman sekedar perbandingan.. selanjutnya kita akan belajar step-by-step instalasi Windows XP. Bagi yang sudah ahli, harap bisa kasih masukan nantinya..

Persiapan Awal
Oke, sebelum memulai langkah instalasi windows, Anda perlu mempersiapkan Boot Device Priority (urutan proses booting) agar mengarah pada CD/DVD ROM. Setting ini dilakukan dari BIOS, Software kecil yang tertanam dalam Motherboard yang berjalan sejak saat PC dihidupkan. Nah, sekedar informasi, masing-masing perusahaan Motherboard punya standar BIOS sendiri sendiri. Sehingga untuk masuk ke BIOS Anda perlu menekan tombol yang berbeda-beda tergantung pada Tipe Motherboard  yang Anda gunakan.. Namun tenang, sebagian besar motherboard menggunakan tombol F2 atau Delete untuk masuk ke BIOS. Anda tidak perlu mencoba satu persatu
Urutan langkahnya adalah sebagai berikut:

1. Hidupkan komputer, segera setelah PC menyala, masukkan CD Instalasi Windows XP Anda ke dalam CD/DVD ROM. Selanjutnya segera tekan tombol F2 dan sebuah menu akan tampil di layar Anda. Jika komputer tidak merespon atau tidak tampil menu, silakan tekan tombol Reset PC Anda, kali ini silakan Anda tekan Delete untuk masuk ke BIOS.
2. Untuk Phoenix BIOS, arahkan ke Tab Boot seperti gambar di bawah ini. Pilih CD-ROM Drive, geser ke posisi paling atas dengan tombol ‘+’.
   
3. Untuk Award BIOS, temukan pilihan serupa dalam bagian Boot Sequence. Tombol untuk mengatur posisi urutan booting mungkin akan sedikit berbeda, tapi jangan khawatir. Akan selalu ada petunjuk seperti yang dapat Anda lihat di sisi kanan dalam gambar di atas.
4. Selanjutnya, simpan perubahan yang Anda lakukan dengan menekan F10, konfirmasi dengan memilih [Yes] dan komputer akan melakukan restart.

Keterangan tambahan: Beberapa tipe motherboard terbaru telah menyediakan Hotkey atau tombol cepat untuk memilih urutan booting. Untuk melakukannya, Anda cukup menekan tombol F12 dan pilih booting lewat CD/DVD.
Langkah Instalasi Windows
Kali ini saya menggunakan CD  Instalasi Windows XP Home Edition SP2. Tampilan instalasi Windows Home Edition ini mungkin sedikit berbeda dengan versi yang lain, namun jangan khawatir. Panduan ini kompatibel dengan instalasi windowsXP yang lain. Oke, kembali ke topik..

1. Saat pertama kali booting dengan CD Instalasi windows, akan tampak gambar seperti di bawah ini. Tekan sembarang tombol untuk memulai Instalasi.
   
2. Sesaat kemudian, Windows akan memulai Instalasi seperti gambar berikut ini..
   
3. Pada menu seperti di bawah ini, Tekan tombol [Enter]. Sekedar informasi, Pilihan [R] diperuntukkan bagi kita yang ingin mereparasi Sistem operasi windows yang sudah ter-install dalam PC. Anda tidak perlu memilih ‘R’ jika tidak sedang melakukan perbaikan Windows
   
4. Selanjutnya akan muncul lembar perjanjian (License Agreement Microsoft), tekan tombol [F8].
5. Anda akan dibawa ke ke bagian partisi/pembagian harddisk. Dalam contoh ini, saya menggunakan virtual harddisk sebesar 10237MB (sekitar 10GB) dan akan saya bagi menjadi 2. Drive C:\ yang akan kita pakai sebagai tempat Sistem operasi dengan ukuran sekitar 5GB. Sisanya akan kita pakai sebagai drive D:\ untuk penyimpanan data.
   
6. Caranya seperti berikut: Tekan tombol [C] untuk membuat partisi (Create Partition), isi ukuran partisi sesuai besar harddisk dan kebutuhan Anda dalam satuan MB. Ingat 1 Megabyte tidak sama dengan 1000 byte. Di sini saya masukkan nilai 5240 MB (hasil dari 5 x 1048, sesuai satuan 1MB harddisk berukuran besar). Selanjutnya tekan [Enter].
   
7. Hasil partisi Anda akan tampak seperti berikut. Nilai yang tadi saya masukkan tidak tertulis persis seperti yang saya inginkan yakni 5239 MB. Arahkan pointer pada posisi Unpartitioned Space dan tekan tombol [C] untuk membuat partisi kedua, dan tekan [Enter]. Dalam contoh ini Anda akan mendapatkan 2 partisi masing-masing dengan ukuran sekitar 5000MB.
   
8. Setelah selesai dengan proses partisi, Arahkan pada partisi paling atas dan tekan [Enter].
9. Akan muncul pilihan format harddisk, Untuk harddisk yang baru dipasang, saya sarankan Anda pilih Format dengan cara ketiga yakni ‘Format the partition using the NTFS file system‘ kemudian tekan [Enter]. Pilihan ini akan memformat Harddisk Anda dengan standar file system NTFS.
   
   Sekedar informasi: Pilihan lain yang tersedia adalah:
   - Format the partition using the NTFS file system (Quick) = Memformat partisi dengan tipe NTFS dengan hanya menghapus data yang ada di dalamnya. Saran saya, Jangan gunakan cara ini jika harddisk Anda masih baru/belum pernah diformat. Anda bisa menggunakan cara format ini dengan aman jika Harddisk Anda sudah pernah diformat sebelumnya.
   - Format the partition using the FAT file system (Quick) = Memformat partisi dengan tipe FAT dengan cara menghapus data di dalam harddisk. Anda bisa menggunakan cara format ini dengan aman jika Harddisk Anda sudah pernah diformat sebelumnya.
   - Format the partition using the FAT file system = Memformat partisi dengan tipe FAT dengan cara standar
   Proses format akan tampak seperti tampilan berikut.
   
10. Setelah selesai proses format, Windows akan menyalin file yang dibutuhkan untuk instalasi seperti ilustrasi berikut, tunggu beberapa saat.
    
11. Setelah proses penyalisan selesai, secara otomatis komputer akan melakukan restart. Untuk mempercepat proses restart, Anda bisa tekan [Enter].
    
12. Saat booting kali ini, Anda tidak perlu menekan tombol apapun. Tunggu saja hingga tampil gambar berikut.
    
13. Selanjutnya, Windows akan melanjutkan proses Instalasi seperti berikut. Tunggu beberapa saat.
    
14. Pada pilihan ini Anda bisa langsung tekan [Next].
    
15. Ketik Nama Registrasi dan Organisasi yang Anda inginkan, akhiri dengan menekan [Next].
    
16. Masukkan Nomor Serial Number Instalasi Windows Anda. Anda bisa temukan nomor yang terdiri dari lima kelompok kode ini di dalam lembar khusus dalam casing CD Original Anda dalam stiker yang mirip dengan meterai, akhiri dengan menekan [Next].
    
17. Masukkan Nama Komputer, atau jika Anda tidak ingin melakukan perubahan langsung tekan [Next].
    Informasi: Pada Windows XP Professional Anda akan temukan kolom tambahan berupa password Administrator. Silakan isi sesuai keinginan Anda.
18. Masukkan informasi Waktu dan Tanggal yang tepat. Pilih Wilayah Waktu di mana Anda berada. Untuk Wilayah Indonesia Bagian barat, silakan pilih ‘GMT+07.00 Bangkok, Hanoi, Jakarta‘ kemudian tekan [Next].
    
19. Pilihan ini menampilkan pengaturan jaringan, jika Anda tidak memahami atau tidak ingin menyetting sekarang, silakan tekan tombol [Next]. Ingat, kita tetap bisa mengatur jaringan nanti saat proses Instalasi sudah selesai. Setelah ini, Windows akan menyalin semua file instalasi ke harddisk Anda. Prosesnya cukup lama, masih cukup untuk membuat dan menikmati secangkir teh atau kopi.. :). Setelah proses penyalinan selesai, Windows akan melakukan restart sekali lagi.
    
20. Pada tampilan Workgroup or Computer Domain, Tekan tombol [Next].
    
21. Windows akan mendeteksi tampilan optimal dari PC Anda. Tekan tombol [OK].
    
22. Jika Anda bisa membaca tulisan dalam jendela Monitor Settings dan tulisan di bawahnya, klik [OK].
    
23. Anda akan dibawa masuk ke dalam Windows untuk pertama kali semenjak instalasi.. Silakan tekan tombol [Next].
    
24. Pada tampilan ‘Help protect your PC‘ pilih ‘Not right now‘, dan akhiri dengan menekan tombol [Next].
    
25. Selanjutnya, komputer akan mengecek koneksi ke Internet, pilih [Skip].
    
26. Pada pilihan aktivasi Windows, silakan pilih ‘No, remind me every few days’, kemudian pilih [Next].
    
27. Tampilan berikut ini menunjukkan pilihan untuk menambah pengguna komputer. Anda bisa memasukkan beberapa pengguna yang akan mengakses komputer Anda. Namun jika satu akun sudah cukup; atau Anda menginstall komputer untuk dipakai bergantian, cukup masukkan satu user kemudian klik [Next].
    
28. Selamat, Instalasi Windows telah selesai, tekan [Finish] untuk mengakhiri instalasi.
    
29. Windows akan melakukan login ke Username yang sudah Anda buat..

30. Anda akan melihat tampilan windows seperti ini saat pertama kali login..

Anda benar-benar tidak percaya, setelah dengan berat hati merogoh kocek yang cukup banyak untuk membeli CD Original Windows XP. Alih alih mendapatkan sistem operasi idaman yang aman dari razia Polisi justru pesan Error yang Anda dapatkan. Setelah selesai proses instalasi layar Anda menampilkan pesan error bertuliskan “You may be a victim of software counterfeiting”. Bahkan pesan error tetap tak mau hilang setelah Anda mengunjungi situs  http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/ untuk melakukan validasi. Pesan error tetap muncul berulang kali..

Niat hati ingin tertib peraturan dengan menginstall software yang bukan bajakan, justru ‘dituduh’ sebagai korban pembajakan software..
Sungguh tidak menyenangkan, bukan?

Untungnya, Anda bisa menghilangkan pesan error tersebut dengan mengikuti langkah demi langkah berikut ini:
1. Buka Windows Explorer, akses di C:\Windows\Downloaded Program Files. Dalam folder ini temukan dah hapus semua file berakhiran .WGA.
2. Masuk Safe Mode dengan merestart komputer Anda dan sesaat setelah windows selesai Log Off, dengan cepat tekan tombol F8. (Jika Anda tidak yakin, Anda bisa menekan tombol ini beberapa kali)

• Begitu di layar monitor Anda tampak pilihan Windows Advanced Startup, pilih Safe Mode.
• Dalam Safe Mode, masuk ke folder berikut ini:

C:WindowsSystem32 (ganti nama file wgatray.exe menjadi wgatrayold.exe)
C:WindowsSystem32dllcache (ganti nama file wgatray.exe menjadi wgatrayold.exe)

Keterangan: Dllcache berada dalam folder yang tersembunyi (hidden). Untuk menampilkannya, buka Control Panel > Folder Options, Pilih tab View, temukan checkbox Show Hidden Files and Folders, tandai.
3. Masih dalam Safe Mode, Masuk Registry Editor:

• Klik Start > Run > ketik regedit dalam dialog box akhiri dengan klik [OK].
• Dalam Registry Editor, arahkan pada string berikut:

HKEY_Local_MachineSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsNTCurrentVersionWinlogonNotifyWGALOGON

• Klik Kanan > Export folder WGALOGON (langkah ini perlu dilakukan untuk membackup registry Anda).
• Setelah seluruh folder selesai diexport, hapus folder WGALOGON tersebut.
• Selanjutnya, tutup semua aplikasi dan Restart PC Anda dan booting seperti semula.

4. Aktivasi manual:

• Masuk ke halaman web www.microsoft.com/genuine
• Validasi ulang secara manual produk Windows XP Anda
• Setelah proses validasi selesai, Restart komputer Anda.

LANGKAH YANG LAINNYA

Menghilangkan Peringatan Windows Genuine Advance (WGA)
Langkah2nya adalah sebagai berikut :

• Buka Task Manager dengan menekan “Ctrl+Alt+Del”
• Matikan proses yang bernama “wgatray.exe”
• Restart computer dan masuklah ke dalam Safe Mode (biasanya dengan menekan tombol F8)
• Pada Safe Mode, buka registry editor dengan cara klik Start \\ Run. Ketik “regedit” kemudian ENTER
• Pada regedit, carilah: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Microsoft \\ windowsNT \\ CurrentVersion \\ Winlogon \\ Notify
• Kemudian hapus folder/directory “WGALOGON”
• Restart kembali komputer seperti biasa

Uninstall Windows Genuine Advance (WGA)
Caranya:

• Matikan process “wgatray.exe” di Task Manager
• Restart Windows XP dan masuk safe mode
• Delete WgaTray.exe dari c:\Windows\System32
• Delete WgaTray.exe dari c:\Windows\System32\dllcache
• Buka RegEdit, cari: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \\ SOFTWARE \\ Microsoft \\ Windows NT \\ CurrentVersion \\ Winlogon \\ Notify
• Delete folder “WgaLogon” dan seluruh isinya
• Reboot Windows XP
